The Embassy of the United States in Gaborone is the diplomatic mission of the United States of America in Botswana. It is located next to the government enclave and main mall neighborhood.[1]

History[edit]

On September 30, 1966, the United States established diplomatic relations with Botswana when it gained independence from the United Kingdom, and the American Embassy in Gaberones, now known as Gaborone, was opened.[2]

In 2016, the U.S. Embassy in Gaborone confirmed advanced plans to establish a military airfield in Botswana. The Botswana Defence Force (BDF) and the U.S. Embassy had previously denied rumors of a U.S.-funded military facility at the Thebephatswa Air Base in 2013.[3]
