I noticed that the website "supermodels.nl" has many links on various fashion model profiles on Wiki. According to Finjan Secure Browsing, AVG and board threads ([see this screenshot]), this site is infested with malware and badware. Although I'm unable to access the site (keeps loading and loading), I'd like to know how you would handle this case since there are dozens of links to this dispensable site. Thank you so far. Thank You again. Are these links being removed automatically or manually? Robomod (talk) 06:22, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am generating a COIBot report. If the site is bad, these requests must be done at meta! --Dirk Beetstra T C 09:29, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just removed many of them, a small handful remains; I'll let someone more familiar with enwiki do them. – Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 21:26, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Mike. Your help is much appreciated. ► robomod 18:17, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Note - given the possibility of malware here I have actually listed this at Meta level - we have done such things in the past (it could be removed here if required). Feel free to update us if/when there is any news that this is resolved - cheers --Herby talk thyme 07:09, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

youtube.com

I propose that youtube links should be addable by autoconfirmed users only, to reduce the amount of copyvio links added. Stifle (talk) 18:48, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Concerns of possible Linking to copyrighted works is a persuasive reason. These videos are re-posted anonomously typicaly from other sources (the creator's) and are carrying the work in violation of the creator's copyright. Permissioned alternatives are most always available from the "actual" source(the creator's). Wikipedia need not be a part in contributory infringement. Lets allow for more input, simply because of the amount of these links currently on the project. --Hu12 (talk) 19:08, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Note that bug 1505 was recently fixed. Existing links are no longer affected by the spam blacklist. MER-C 12:35, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that blacklisting youtube is a good idea. YouTube has been used for copyright infringement, maybe. But that's not Wikipedia's care. Many companies, artists and organizations use YouTube to upload their videos to share with the world and those videos are legit to link from Wikipedia. If there is infringement, YouTube will and does deal with it anyway. There will always be incorrect links to not allowed videos according to YouTube's Terms of Use but those links can be removed. Blocking, even for only a certain group of editors, will not help at all but instead be harmful to the project. --SoWhy Talk 14:22, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Blacklisting youtube is not a good idea. Zealous editors would simply use the fact that it's in the blacklist to gallop around removing thousands of links for no other reason. It's a scenario for another ArbCom and we shouldn't be creating this sort of disruption to the project. Any editor who sees a copyvio can revert and we should leave it at that in this case. Wjhonson (talk) 15:57, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that blacklisting youtube would be disruptive. Furthermore, Youtube is owned by one of the wealthiest companies in the world, Google, and as a potential magnet for copyright lawsuits, they are diligent in taking down copyright infringements when made aware of them.
Also, youtube links were being added in early 2007 at the daily rate of 100 to 150 based on Veinor's link reports; I'm guessing we probably have 50,000 to 100,000 by now. Any decision to blacklist these links should involve a wider community discussion than we're having here.
I suspect many of our youtube links are not of encyclopedic quality; if so, it may worth considering setting up XLinkBot to monitor and revert link additions by unregistered users. --A. B. (talkcontribs) 16:52, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Concur with that. There are zillions of articles where youtube links are not only appropriate, but also crucial, cf. Umbrella (song). And since we are currently unable to restrict a link to autoconfirmed users only, I consider this request  Not done. MaxSem(Han shot first!) 16:58, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
youtube.com is already on XLinkBot's revert list, it has been there since the bot first started running. --Versageek 17:49, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User is immune to warnings, advice, and reverts by several editors, and has gone as far as adding his link and offer of his guru services at Help:Contents, for people needing....help, I guess. Has also put out his shingle at talk pages: Talk:Shakti, Talk:Spiritual among others. A great deal of productive editor time would be saved by simply blacklisting. The user evens tries to create some dubious content just so he can ref link to those sites in order to make them look as if they are essential to the article.[13] The user's reasoning is that they've been there for a couple of years so they have to stay there. This is the second time I've had to blacklist one of this guy's websites. I already had gamerosters.com blacklisted a year ago, so if you can look at logs/archives somehow please check that out. But anyway, here's the deal:
Brian Kaldenberg runs a website called GameRosters.com which sells custom rosters for video games like those in the NCAA Football series. He continuously spammed NCAA Football 08 with his gamerosters.com link, as you'll see if you can check the archives somehow. It might have been at a the meta spam list, though I don't really understand all this.
Anyway, Mr. Kaldenberg has shown a complete disregard for Wikipedia rules on spamming, and has even sent my threatening messages via email, AIM and facebook.
Now, a guy named Fairdale Kings used to run a website called fkrosters.com which provided rosters free of charge. It seems that Mr. Kaldenberg has bought out FK, as the fkrosters.com website is no nearly identical to www.gamerosters.com and has been re-designed by Mr. Kaldenberg's company, NimbleAd.com.
However, it seems Mr. Kaldenberg has been careful to not put his name on the FK website, so as not to let FK's users know up front that FK is no longer running the website. Of course, the big difference is that he is no charging from that website.
Anyway, on to the point. You can see that Mr. Kaldenberg has begun spamming the NCAA Football 09 article with his new fkrosters.com link. Here are some diffs:
I think it's quite clearly a violation of WP:SPAM in a ton of different ways, from being a conflict of interest, to being a personal website, to trying to advertise and profit from having a link on Wikipedia. Mr. Kaldenberg has shown a complete disregard for Wikipedia policy in recent years, and though I doubt this will be the end of his problems here, this definitely needs to be done and will at least throw a wrench into his violations.►Chris NelsonHolla! 21:50, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Also, from the Google search link above, I've found this which proves his acquisition of the fkrosters.com name.►Chris NelsonHolla! 21:56, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Has there been any more additions?--Hu12 (talk) 02:03, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, just these four thus far. But I guarantee you there will be more, and considering I've already proven he is trying to promote his website for profit, I think there's no question it should be blacklisted. Plus, his gamerosters.com site has already been blacklisted on Wikipedia and this just another version.►Chris NelsonHolla! 02:05, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I explained to him in detail about the policy last year, he knows it all. He does not care because he says he's running a business. The fact that his one link has already been blacklisted should be enough by itself to get this one banned also.►Chris NelsonHolla! 01:17, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And it happens again:

[19]

Seriously, I cannot understand what's taking so long with this. The mere fact that his gamerosters.com link was blacklisted and this new link serves only to circumvent that should make this automatic. Warnings won't help, you can look at the talk pages of the IP's that did it last year to see he was warned.►Chris NelsonHolla! 01:28, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

See, here's an IP he did this with last year on NCAA Football 08. Here are the contributions of that IP. And here are the contributions of this new IP.►Chris NelsonHolla! 01:31, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to add this forum to the blacklist for the same reason that worldwidealbums.tk and clickitaliansoftware.net was. There's no excuse for this to be used as a source for album sales and unfortunately many discographies seem to use it. If blacklisting is too much, perhaps this can be added to XLinkBot. Proposed Removals

Request unlisting of www.csrcenter.net

CSRcenter.net is a global, non-profit research community / database for and by students and researchers of Corporate Social Responsibility. This means that the materials on the website are useful for people that want to know more about Corporate Social Responsibility, Sustainability and related terms. For research purposes, one can imagine that referring to a library of relevant, freely accessible content is a useful external link.

Looking at the Corporate Social Responsibility article, for example, the external links contain a link to GlobalReporting, a website simply listing companies with social reports. This link is allowed, yet adds little to the reader's understanding of corporate social responsibility. Any user looking for more (research) materials concerning Corporate Social Responsibility is left empthy-handed.

Unlisting CSR Center would therefore be useful, as I am confident that an external link to the website on CSR-related articles provides readers an opportunity to further their inquiries into CSR. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.174.233.72 (talk) 08:48, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

See:
It looks like this domain was also added by the same accounts to the nl.wikipedia; this raises the question as to whether it should instead be blacklisted on the much more sweeping global blacklist which is where we list cross-wiki spam domains. The global blacklist is used by more than just our 700+ Wikimedia Foundation wikis (Wikipedias, Wiktionaries, etc.). All 3000+ Wikia wikis plus a substantial percentage of the 25,000+ unrelated wikis that run on our MediaWiki software have chosen to incorporate this blacklist in their own spam filtering.
--A. B. (talkcontribs) 16:39, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like we missed some domains when blacklisting the others:
The site-owner appears to own 20+ other domains which should also be considered at for potential blacklisting if someone has time to investigate.

z3.invisionfree.com is one of the servers which make up the invisionfree network. I am attempting to represent a fictional use of data from the Thirty Years War, as the simulation is run off of the invisionfree servers. I believe that in all fairness, simulations such as these should be mentioned, as it is practical research into the varying politics of the times and has had participants from accross America and from other countries through out the world, such as Japan, Finland, and Germany. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 155.31.112.188 (talk) 17:06, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly, I don't think it matters. The fact that the Thirty Years' War was notable doesn't mean that an online simulation based on it is also notable, or is an appropriate external link in its article. (The link in question appears to be z3.invisionfree.com/ygw, as referenced in [29].) Zetawoof(ζ) 05:50, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Typically, we do not remove domains from the spam blacklist in response to site-owners' requests. Instead, we de-blacklist sites when trusted, high-volume editors request the use of blacklisted links because of their encyclopaedic value in support of our encyclopaedia pages. If such an editor asks to use your links, I'm sure the request will be carefully considered and your links may well be removed.
Each wiki has a local "whitelist" which overrides the global blacklist for that project only. Some of the non-Wikimedia sites may be interested in your links; by all means feel free to request local whitelisting on those.
Unlike Wikipedia, DMOZ is a web directory specifically designed to categorize and list all Internet sites; if you've not already gotten your sites listed there, I encourage you to do so -- it's a more appropriate venue for your links than our wikis. Their web address: http://www.dmoz.org.

aboutmyarea.co.uk/kt20

Please could you consider delisting aboutmyarea.co.uk/kt20 as it actually is a useful community resource which operates to provide an online medium for the local community. It support non-profit groups and organisations for free, and although it is funded by advertising, it could not exist without this as it requires man-hours to update it, and it does not make a profit. It supports initiatives from both Reigate and Banstead Council and Surrey County Council, and is a strong supporter of charities in the area, particularly The Children's Trust, from whom I can provide a testimonial if required. Thank you in anticipation. Jacob74 (talk) 11:01, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is not a directory for external links and is not here to act as a "useful community resource" but for general worldwide readership. If take past spamming actions of say Jamiecwright (talk · contribs) and as example this edit, I see no useful information then provided by link. That the groups using it are well intentioned is not the issue, whether the site provides useful additional information beyond that appropriate within our articles is - and on quick search of a few pages I do not see it as a useful site to link to. Having placed this request under teh right section (removals vs additions) please note that "You should show where the link can be useful and give arguments as to why it should be unlisted", so please give a specific example of where the link might be useful. Request to delist Debatepedia

debatepedia.org is a redirect to wiki.idebate.org. I came across this block while trying to add a link to Debatepedia on Wikipedia:Pro and con lists, but it might be useful to link to from article pages, as well. On controversial topics like gun control or abortion, there's some difficulty in preventing people from using the article or talk page as a discussion forum. Though Wikipedia is not the place to have arguments, it seems it would be useful to give people an alternative forum that is that place. Looking at the original complaint, it appears that the founders added a lot of links to empty debate pages. That's not useful, and it's against the external linking policy.

However, the site has started to fill out, and some debate pages on prominent issues have good content now. The ones linked from their "Past Daily Debate Digest topics daily digest" page (direct link forbidden by spam blacklist) seem to be generally suitable for linking. I think linking to these pages would be useful for readers who want to dig deeper into an issue, or who are passionate about it and need somewhere to argue about it.

So, I recommend removing these two domains from the blacklist. I hope the owners of Debatepedia have gotten the message that links to contentless pages are not OK so there won't be another flood of such lists. (Though user blocks are an alternative to deal with that.) I think it's more likely we can have a controlled increase in cross-linking, limited to "good" links, though the usual day-to-day editing process. Perhaps a special note on the external linking policy about this type of site would help that. -- Beland (talk) 02:15, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia e-mail abuse, canvassing, mass spamming and sock puppetry. Far to much abuse (Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Spam/2007_Archive_Nov_1#wiki.idebate.org). Additionaly wiki.idebate.org links:
I don't see any compeling reason for removal at this point, nor am I convinced how this could be used as as a citation or source. However, if a specific link is needed as a potential citation, any etablished editor can request it on the whitelist on a case-by-case basis, where the url can be demonstrated as an appropriate Reliable and Verifiable source (in an appropriate context) when there are no other reasonable alternatives available.--Hu12 (talk) 03:52, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
For the interests of your work on Wikipedia:Pro and con lists I have Whitelisted the root domain http://wiki.idebate.org/index.php/Welcome_to_Debatepedia%21 for use there. Note that variations other than the format above, will not work or be linkable.--Hu12 (talk) 04:11, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not suggesting that Debatepedia is useful as a citation or source to verify factual information; that is not its purpose. Its purpose is to showcase well-reasoned opinions. I don't see why the Wikipedia policies on verifiability and sourcing apply. Self-published opinions are not appropriate for Wikipedia, but they are of interest to readers of articles on these topics. For the articles I mentioned, there does seem to be a wide variety of opinions represented, not just one person, and those opinions are well researched and grounded in factual evidence, as per Debatepedia policy.
I'm curious on which criteria you feel these links would fail Wikipedia:External links. -- Beland (talk) 21:02, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:External_links#Restrictions_on_linking, due to Wikipedia e-mail abuse, canvassing, mass spamming and sock puppetry. Whitelisting on a case-by-case basis is in the best interest of the project for now.  Not done--Hu12 (talk) 18:56, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
