Hi,[edit]

Pr WP:A/I/PIA, all "accounts with fewer than 500 edits, and accounts with less than 30 days tenure are prohibited from editing any page that could be reasonably construed as being related to the Arab–Israeli conflict."

Notice

The article Fuad Fares has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

BLP does not meet WP:NBIO- coverage is largely interviews and non-independent sources.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello Eladkarmel! Your additions to Matzah brei have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 16:59, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Diannaa I appreciate it, But I got the author's permission to use the text as I wished. Can you return my edit? Eladkarmel (talk) 17:39, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If the copyright holder wishes to release this material under a compatible license, please see WP:Requesting copyright permission for an explanation of how to do it. There's a sample permission email at WP:Consent.— Diannaa (talk) 19:29, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve The Mitzvah to Write a Torah Scroll[edit]

Hello, Eladkarmel,

Thank you for creating The Mitzvah to Write a Torah Scroll.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

More references (current and non-biblical) about writing a torah scroll are needed. Commandments in scriptures are not foundation for Wikipedia articles. What is needed are references from significant coverage about the topic of the article, and independent of it, in multiple secondary sources which are WP:RS; that is your guide. You may also read WP:PRIMARY which details the limited permitted usage of primary sources. A more comprehensive guide is WP:SOURCES ... Providing sufficient references, ideally one per fact referred to, that meet these tough criteria is likely to allow this article to remain. Lack of them or an inability to find them is likely to mean that the topic is not suitable for inclusion. Kindly do the needful. Thank you.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Whiteguru}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

alert[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in the Arab–Israeli conflict. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place {{Ds/aware}} on your user talk page and specify in the template the topic areas that you would like to opt out of alerts about. For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Shalom. Your comment at Talk:Jerusalem is just one word. Quoting Wikipedia:Polling is not a substitute for discussion#Not-votes: " A "vote" that doesn't seem to be based on a reasonable rationale may be completely ignored or receive little consideration, or may be escalated to wider attention if it appears to have been treated as a simple vote count. Ilay Ofran moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Ilay Ofran, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). In addition, there are not enough sources to meet WP:VERIFY. I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. Please stop adding Easter eggs[edit]

These edits [3], [4] both add copy-paste Easter egg links. The Re'im page is not a summary of casualties in the offensive, but an example of a specific event, and as such, it is not an appropriate link. In case this Wikipedia precept is unfamiliar to you, the relevant guideline can be found at WP:EASTEREGG Iskandar323 (talk) 11:56, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Iskandar323, it's really not Easter eggs. The event in "Re'im" is the trigger for the war.And it is directly related to the various articles.Eladkarmel (talk) 12:04, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't seen it written anywhere here on Wikipedia or out there in the world that suggests it is pinned solely to that one event, so that seems like a claim and a bit of a stretch. It's part of a whole. Iskandar323 (talk) 12:12, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The hazards of translating from Wikipedia articles in other languages[edit]

Hi Eladkarmel. I noticed you recently added a copy of the Hebrew Wikipedia article פיגוע הירי בצומת הכבשים that was translated to English Wikipedia under the title 2023 Route 60 shooting. However, you did not attribute the source of the article to be from the Hebrew version in the edit summary, as you are required to do when Copying within Wikipedia - A simple edit summary note that your addition was a translated version from the Hebrew article URL is sufficient to meet the attribution requirements, although mentioning the version you translated on the talk page is also appreciated. Please ensure you attribute your sources the next time you copy and translate an article from another Wikipedia language version. This is a copyright licencing legal requirement.

Also, a literal translation of the Hebrew title, "The shooting attack at the Sheep Junction", has been used in the lead, is inconsistent with the title of the article, as it is not clear this is the same event. If one were to use the Arabic version of Wikipedia it might be called the 2023 Hebron attack. However, a news item from the Jerusalem Post has named this event the "[2023] Hebron Hills shooting". Since this appears to be a commonly recognizable name in English language sources, I am suggesting that the title of the article be changed and the article lead be rewritten, accordingly. You are welcome to express your views on the article talk page, in the section discussing the name of this event. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 23:54, 27 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey,
You're right, I did take a lot of inspiration from the Hebrew entry. As you can see, I brought a lot of information from other sources such as articles on news sites.
Anyway, thanks for bringing it to my attention, I'll try to pay attention to your comments. Eladkarmel (talk) 16:04, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Yitzhak Ben-Bashat requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Ways to improve Moshe Gaon[edit]

Hello, Eladkarmel,

Thank you for creating Moshe Gaon.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Separate out business, political and other work. Much of the business-related material seems over-detailed and not notable. The section on politics needs expansion and more references. What does "being involved" in the "fictitious associations affair" actually mean?

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Bastun}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

Thanks, you're right. The truth is that, as in other cases, I took most of the article from the Hebrew Wikipedia. (And I filtered out a lot of irrelevant things that are written there). I will try to improve the article according to the instructions you wrote. Thanks again. Eladkarmel (talk) 13:34, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:2024 Dahieh attack[edit]

Hello, I created a draft not knowing you started an article already. I'd be fine with deleting it. But I think you should change the title to Dahieh instead of Beirut. Prodrummer619 (talk) 16:44, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Or how about changing it to Assassination of Saleh al-Arouri since his death has been confirmed by Hamas just now Prodrummer619 (talk) 16:50, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have currently created them all as Redirect. I agree that the name should be discussed.Eladkarmel (talk) 16:52, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Eladkarmel: Too many things are happening at once. Will there be an article for the recent events or not? I thought I'd continue my draft after you deleted yours but it seems like you've changed your mind. Prodrummer619 (talk) 17:35, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's not me... there's an editor who moved the article to draft, now I've put it back. Feel free to continue improving the article 2024 Beirut explosion.Eladkarmel (talk) 17:37, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

request: fixing unfactual claim in Women in the 2023 Israel–Hamas war[edit]

Hi! I noticed you are actively contributing to Women in the 2023 Israel–Hamas war. There is an unfactual claim there, which I believe materially harms the article. It's all summarized here. I can't edit there because of edit protection. If you review this and agree this is unfactual, and if you are in the position to fix this, I'd love your help. Thank you! Deletion discussion about Israeli humanitarian aid to Gaza[edit]

Hello Eladkarmel, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Israeli humanitarian aid to Gaza, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Israeli humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Bastun}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Concern over your contributions to Denial of the 7 October attacks[edit]

Eladkarmel, I am here to express my concern over your editing (see my comments) in your contributions during the creation of Denial of the 7 October attacks. This is potentially an important topic, but your usage of opinion articles and Substack blog for facts is not acceptable. Add on the usage of a primary source poll and a think tank article, I would say as a whole, you will need to review our core policy WP:RS in detail. This is surprising to me given that you’ve been editing on here since 2018 and on he.wiki since 2015. Add on to the BLP issue (see my comments) accompanying your creation of Hamas most wanted playing cards, I must say this is not the quality of edits suitable for such a controversial topic area. I hope that you can improve your future contributions in line with reliable sources. starship.paint (RUN) 10:25, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Well, see section immediately above, and the resulting deletion discussion. We all have inherent biases, but we need to set those aside in order to edit here. This editor is not even pretending to be in any way neutral. BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 10:49, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As @Starship.paint said, I am a veteran editor here and on the Hebrew Wikipedia. I'm learning all the time. There is a saying in Hebrew of "he who does not do is not wrong". I do, and I'm sometimes wrong by mistakes. See all my conversations, I'm ready to accept criticism of me and my edits.
Regarding the sources, since I am from Israel, when I look for sources for articles, Google usually brings me sources from Israel, so these are my main sources. I'll try to get better at it. Eladkarmel (talk) 12:32, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I wrote this in the talk page of the article
Denial of the 7 October attacks
:
"I wrote before, and I write now. Wikipedia is a joint venture. I write articles that I think are important, I know that my articles are not born perfect and I think that it is the role of our community to improve and balance articles.
I'm used to a situation where every article written about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that does not attack Israel is immidietly attacked and scrutinized from every side to look for cracks in it. Unfortunately, I also feel that editors who wrote here about these issues have disappeared. (Some were blocked and some simply stopped writing about the topics, maybe because of the reason I wrote above).
However, I will continue to write about these important topics.
I suggest that instead of finding cracks in the sources and the article, it can simply be improved together so that it presents the truth (I believe that only the truth should be written in Wikipedia)."Eladkarmel (talk) 12:54, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Eladkarmel, I'm still assuming good faith at this point here. Kindly answer these questions. (1) Is your English good enough to properly evaluate sources? (2) Do you recognise that these three are opinion articles? Clues: "Ideas", "OPINION", "opinion". starship.paint (RUN) 13:09, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I think what's going on is the first time I read it I missed it... Eladkarmel (talk) 13:33, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Right. I'm going to chalk this up to supreme carelessness. You've got to change that, alright? I've just found another "OPINION" article. It's even listed as that in the URL. Welp, another one, "OPINION". starship.paint (RUN) 14:13, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I did not understand. Can't you fix it? I'm at work and editing via smartphone and I won't be able to do it now. Eladkarmel (talk) 14:34, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have already fixed both by removing the articles. This is really too many errors. I hope that this is enough warning for you. starship.paint (RUN) 15:05, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Page re-re-re-re-move[edit]

Appreciate your restoring the old title. Though I've been on-wiki for many years, untangling that mess was beyond me. Coretheapple (talk) 16:32, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Apparently this is not the old title, my bad. I'm filing up a request to restore it to the original. Hopefully that will end the back and forth. Eladkarmel (talk) 16:34, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh good gawd yes. What a mess, and certainly not your fault. Now you are barred by 1RR from reverting, and I am barred by lack of technical proficiency from moving the page myself. I tried, and ran into some kind of redirect issue. Coretheapple (talk) 16:43, 18 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The page was restored to the previous title and temporarily move-protected to prevent a reptition of such nonsense. Correct process is now underway in the form of an RM on that issue, as I imagine you know. Though irritating to encounter such behavior and time-consuming, at least I was able to pick up some tehnical knowledge that I didn't have before. ?[edit]

I think the Venn diagram for the intersection between

  • מרגיש לי שוויקיפדיה היא מקום שבו אפשר לעשות את העולם לקצת יותר טוב.

and

...looks like this.

I left a comment here. If you disagree, that's fine, but I genuinely don't understand why you thought those edits were okay. You been editing for almost a decade now. Sean.hoyland (talk) 10:49, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia reflects the truth. I understand you don’t agree but we need to reflect what’s written in sources. Even if we don’t agree I try to work with RS and this is real criticism. I think it’s a mistake not to include the criticism.
If you can adapt it and make the criticism more accurate and softer then that’s also good.Eladkarmel (talk) 13:21, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Noa Tishby, Yoseph Haddad and a ToI blog. Real criticism?? Reverting is the least that should be done. Selfstudier (talk) 13:38, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a difference between criticism based on Tishbi and Hadad and criticism of Israel based on Al Jazeera? I didn't claim they were objective (just like Al Jazeera and many sources mentioned in Wikipedia are not objective...) Eladkarmel (talk) 13:45, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
AJ is green at RSP for a start. So is JP but not those two. You wrote that edit in Wikivoice as fact, anything but. Selfstudier (talk) 13:49, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So if I add "according to Yosef Hadad and Noa Tashvi" this information is acceptable to you? Eladkarmel (talk) 13:54, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You need to describe them as Israeli activists per source (propaganda pushers if it was me). And ditch the blog source. What has it to do with the 2000 Ramallah lynching anyway? Is it even due? Pretty sure it would be easy to refute if I looked around. Selfstudier (talk) 14:08, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Eladkarmel, I understand, but I don't know how to locate the truth between "a red background to symbolize the urgency of the call to save lives. The orange hand conveys the beautiful community of people from all backgrounds that have come together in support of centering our shared humanity" and "to symbolise the lynching of 2 Israeli men in 2000 by a Palestinian mob in Ramallah". They are incompatible and can't both be true. What interests me though is not the truth, or the details of this content, it's why the ARBPIA topic area is broken and seeing if there are ways to make it a bit better because no one is going to fix it for us. I see that you are an optimist. You hope that someone will adapt your content. But why do you have this hope? This, for me, is like putting my empty coffee cup in the sink and hoping someone, perhaps a passing pro-Palestinian activist, will wash it for me. This never works in my house. It's the same here. An editor's content is meant to be policy compliant, clean, not waiting to be cleaned. Every bit of content people add should comply with WP:NPOV. At least people should try, it's hard, but many people in ARBPIA seem to think there is no need because, if I add something that lacks balance, someone else will balance it for me. But this doesn't seem to work well. It is polarizing and causes conflict. Sean.hoyland (talk) 16:00, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
