Resource Request

How to use this page[edit]

Fixing references and common medical problems!
Warning: for legal reasons, we must note that the Resource Exchange cannot fix any medical problems. But it can fix references.

Making a request[edit]

Before asking volunteers to look for your source, try finding it yourself with the tools at your disposal.

In particular, eligible editors can use the Wikipedia Library, which gives access to content provided by numerous academic publishers.

  • Though we would prefer you to ask for a specific journal, article or work, we will accept open-ended questions. You can ask for all kinds of sources here, either on this page or by writing directly to an active user.
  • Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, date and identifiers like DOI, ISBN, ISSN, PMID, OCLC, etc. Indicate which article you need this for.
  • Due to copyright restrictions, we cannot send you full book/thesis copies. Narrow down your request to a specific chapter or page(s).
  • Add the {{Resolved}} template when your request is completed.
  • Filled requests are archived. Requests unfilled after three months will also be archived.

Fulfilling a request[edit]

  • Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests, in full or in part. When fulfilling a part of a request, tell others which one so that they don't have to do the same work.
  • Notify (mention) the requester using {{u|REQUESTER_USERNAME}}.
  • You can:
Copyright tips
  • Respect copyrights and terms of services of any online services you use.
  • Limit sharing content online that the copyright holders have restricted access to to the minimum level: only to the individuals who need it, only to the minimal degree necessary to fulfil the request and only to improve Wikipedia. We share content under a presumed non-commercial, educational, fair use purpose to improve our articles or create new ones.
  • Whenever possible, share copies privately. You should not upload copyrighted copies from print publications or online databases for unrestricted distribution via open websites.
  • Individual editors are solely responsible for sharing copyrighted content and assume all legal risks. Check the laws of your jurisdiction to make sure you are comfortable and safe giving access to it.

New requests[edit]

October 2023[edit]

Multiple fossil cat-related requests[edit]

These are a series of scientific articles I am unable to access online. I have checked the Wikipedia Library as well as Google Scholar. Most of these are unlikely to be in English. Two of them (the ones by Bakr) I suspect are rare outside of Pakistan.

  1. Green tickY Pons-Moyà, Joan (1987). "Fortunictis nov. gen. acerensis nov. sp. nuevo Metailurini (Mammalia, Carnivora) del Mioceno superior de la Península Ibérica" [Fortunictis nov. gen. acerensis nov. sp. new Metailurini (Mammalia, Carnivora) from the Upper Miocene of the Iberian Peninsula.]. @SilverTiger12, Are you sure about the publication information you cite for number 6? I'm looking at what I think is volume one issue 4 and just can't find that article. Also the link you provide is to a november issue, issue 4 is from April. Eddie891 Talk Work 19:53, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, no, I'm not certain about the publication information; I tracked it down as a potential source second or third-hand a while ago. Doing a search again, I can't track down where the issue 4 part came from, just that it is in volume 1. My apologies. SilverTiger12 (talk) 21:15, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I will look through volume 1. Unfortunately it has no real page numbers. But I will do my best, and ping you when I track it down. Eddie891 Talk Work 22:55, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@SilverTiger12: Please clarify what portions of this request are complete and what portions are still outstanding. The tradition method is to strike the list items that you no longer need. Next week I'll be at a library that has 3, 4, and 6, but am reluctant to spend my limited time there scanning hundreds of pages if you may not still need them. --Worldbruce (talk) 19:34, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Worldbruce: I have done so. Only 3, 5, and 6 are still needed. Unfortunately I don't think I can narrow down the needed page ranges in 3 and 6. Although for 3 the most needed part is the section on felids (cats), Miomachairodus in specific, if you only have limited time. And for 6, close to the same: section on felids, Epimachairodus zwierzykii in specific. Happy editing, SilverTiger12 (talk) 19:43, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Received. Thank you! SilverTiger12 (talk) 14:59, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In case it helps at all, here are some URLs for #5:
Let me know you think if it would be useful for me to request an interlibrary loan (which can be physical or digital) for chapter 105 of "Proceedings of Fourth Pakistan Congress of Zoology" through my university. The second WorldCat link says that University of Minnesota, Twin Cities has a copy, and both it and my university are in the Big Ten Academic Alliance, so it should be more likely to be accepted and should be processed faster, compared to it being at some unaffiliated institution.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 02:15, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A lead! Thank you! I've had a hard enough time finding this source to say yes, please request the interlibrary loan. I think that might actually be what I'm looking for. Happy editing, SilverTiger12 (talk) 18:45, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect! I've requested an ILL for it; I'll let you know when I get updates on its status. Solomon Ucko (talk) 20:08, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@SilverTiger12: I've received the scan. It's short enough that I'll just transcribe it here:

105. On a Collection of Siwalik Carnivora
Abu Bakr
Department of Zoology, University of the Punjab, Lahore

In the Department of Zoology, Punjab University, the total number of the speciments of fossil Carnivora is eighteen. More collection was made last year. The total number of species that discovered is sixteen. Of these four i.e. Vishnucyon nagriensis, Sivaonyx minor, Lycaena felina and Panthera dhokpathanensis are new. The other speciments also given additional information about the known species. The work has been carried out under Pakistan Foundation, Project No. P-PU/Bio (102).

— p. 51
This is page 51, and https://search.worldcat.org/title/62447645 says the book is 51 pages in total, so this is presumably the last page, so that's it.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 20:05, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, so I'm still looking for the monograph itself. Thank you though. SilverTiger12 (talk) 21:57, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh right, hmm... Should I try requesting an inter-library loan and see if my university's librarians can figure something out, perhaps borrowing it or getting a scan from the National Library of Pakistan? Solomon Ucko (talk) 01:08, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's a long shot, but I'd appreciate it. SilverTiger12 (talk) 01:37, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Makes sense. I've submitted a request for it. I'll let you know when I get any updates. I'm required to give a deadline, so I gave them about 6 months, since this could be slow. Solomon Ucko (talk) 07:01, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Status update to keep this thread from going stale: My ILL request is still active, though the last status update was my university's libraries sending a manual request to some library (presumably the National Library of Pakistan?) on February 14th. I'm not sure how long this might take, but I hope I'll get it eventually...
Meanwhile, my difficulty in finding this one inspired me to compile a table of all of the information I could find about all of their monographs: Biological Society of Pakistan#Monographs.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 04:51, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

To editor SilverTiger12: Issues of De Ingenieur in Nederlandsch Indie are readable here. I didn't find that article, though I didn't look very hard. Maybe that collection is incomplete or maybe the volume or issue is wrong. Alas there is no search engine. Zerotalk 02:18, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@SilverTiger12: Article #6 is in volume 1, issue 11, a pdf of which can be downloaded here. It's on pages 21-40 of the pdf, in print they're numbered IV 185 - IV 202. --Worldbruce (talk) 07:47, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

1906 article in Arts and Crafts[edit]

For Herbert Maryon

According to the below article, The March number of "Arts and Crafts" is, as usual, full of articles which are intended to provide students and art workers with useful information on a variety of subjects in which they are interested. The most important of these articles are "Various Methods of Finishing Oak," by Mr. W. Daniell; "Metal Work," by Mr. H. J. Maryon; "Practical Talks about Wood-Carving," by Mr. H. Turner; "Inlaying," by Mr. A[rthur] C[awdron] Horth; and "Bookbinding," by Mr. F. Sangorski and Mr. G. Sutcliffe. Among the more notable illustrations are reproductions of drawings by Henner, E. Detaille, and Feyen Perrin.

The starting point is to figure out what journal this is—a task not helped by its generic name. There's a good chance that this is a small journal that didn't last long. The article would be Maryon's second published work that I'm aware of, five months after "Early Irish Metal Work", in another small journal. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Usernameunique (talk) 01:42, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Based on the location, maybe [1]? Eddie891 Talk Work 02:18, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much for that, Eddie891. I think you're right. I sent an email to a library that looks like it has a copy of the issue in question, but didn't receive a response. I've now submitted an ILL request, so hopefully that will both prove you right, and get the article. --Usernameunique (talk) 05:53, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
How's this going? If you're having trouble with the ILL, I should be able to request an ILL for OCLC 225804755 pretty easily, as my university is within the Big Ten Academic Alliance, and so is one of the libraries that has it. If you received it but it's not the right magazine, if you send me the full newspaper article that prompted your search, I can try to figure out what else it might be. Solomon Ucko (talk) 06:24, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Sollyucko. Would you mind giving it a go? My library claims that the ILL was unsuccessful; I could try submitting it again, but perhaps you would have better luck if a copy is already within your system. --Usernameunique (talk) 20:19, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it looks like University of Minnesota, Twin Cities doesn't have that issue, but it looks like the following libraries have it:
Two of these are academic libraries in the US, so I think there's a decent chance of success. My university's ILL department is a bit busy currently, but I'll submit it in a few days and see what happens. If you contact me via Special:EmailUser, I'll send you the scan I receive, if it's successful.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 21:16, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've submitted an ILL request myself. It might be more complicated than I originally thought, but hopefully they can figure it out without too much difficulty... I'm just confused how issue and volume numbers correspond with months and years... Solomon Ucko (talk) 13:58, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

November 2023[edit]

Books about Le Touquet in French[edit]

For User:Szmenderowiecki/sandbox/Touquet, particularly WWII and post-war reconstruction - will be thrown directly into Le Touquet article

The first article is available through OpenEdition, but The Wikipedia Library access to it is broken, hence my request. The second and third books are very likely offline, and I don't have relevant pages, so I'd appreciate someone with ILL (buying ILL vouchers). Obviously I cannot and will not request everything, but I need some info about what was happening, how many Germans were living in that city, what they were doing there, what did they do with the women, elderly and children who remained in the resort, preparations for the Atlantic Wall as relevant to the city and the reason why Le Touquet was so densely mined even though it had little intrinsic military value. Any relevant excerpts that will reflect on this issue will be welcome. I want to make a text that's max 2 paragraphs, beginning from the internment order of enemy males under 60.

@Szmenderowiecki: Hmm, fair enough... My French is limited, but I can try to help. Are you still interested in this? If so, please contact me via Special:EmailUser so I can send you files, and I'll try to request these via ILL; when I receive them, I'll send you the front and back matter. I can try to search for relevant information myself, but if you're able to provide any guidance on where I should look, I would appreciate it. Worst case, I'll just send you the introduction and conclusion in hopes that there's something useful in there. Unless you request otherwise, I'll wait about a week after sending you content before I return the book.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 18:40, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am still working on my sandbox, so yes, I'd greatly appreciate your efforts there.
The problem is that no library in my country has the books, and pdfs are nowhere to be found. So preferably if you have somebody in France, either in Paris (National Library) or in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, where the town is located, I guess they would have both of the books. Also, because you seem to be based in the United States, check if the Library of Congress has the books, because interlibrary loans to an American library are free, and the LoC has a shitton of everything.
When you get hold of them, send me the ToC and the index (if the books have one), and I will tell more or less what I am looking for.
Thanks for your contributions here. Szmenderowiecki (talk) 19:37, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Szmenderowiecki:
I am indeed in the US, and am a student at a university here. I can request ILL through my university's library system (as I've been doing) or through my county's public libraries. According to WorldCat, these books don't seem to be in the LoC, but Harvard has both and Stanford has one of them, so it should be doable nevertheless.
I've requested both through my university. When I get them, I'll send you photos of any front and back matter, including any ToCs and indices, and you can let me know which parts you think would be most useful. Weighing copyright vs fair use according to related legal precedent, I'm okay with sending you up to about 10% of the content, not counting front/back matter.

Bird name synonym[edit]

For Aldabra fody, as I am doing a major expansion of the article and I cannot figure out who the first author to use the synonym Foudia eminentissima aldabrana was; I think it was most probably Moreau, but I need confirmation (strangely, no taxonomic database I have visited has mentioned this name, but it is brought up by the IUCN and others without making it clear who used it first). If not here, Birds of the World, which I also cannot access, may have some information.

Thanks, Bruce1ee, unsure why I couldn't find it there. Sadly, it does not use the name F. e. aldabrana, but it does state that the bird is most likely conspecific with a different fody. Unsure where to go from here. Anonymous 18:06, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It is Ridgway as given on the article. Added a ref there for the original description. Its placement as a subspecies of eminentissima does not change the taxonomic authority. Shyamal (talk) 07:56, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@User:Shyamal, but Ridgway described it as a full species. It was then described by later authors as a subspecies (now considered a species again), but I can't figure out who first did this. Anonymous 18:06, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@An anonymous username, not my real name, I just looked at the birds of the world entry, and it doesn't seem like it says anything about this, but I'm not sure how to interpret some of the abbreviations. I can send you a copy if you would like. Eddie891 Talk Work 15:25, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In the article you linked, I don't see a mention of "eminentissima", but Figure 2 on p. 34 is captioned "Foudia beaks"; #7 is "aldabrana (Aldabra)". It cites https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/partpdf/52121 from 1894, which refers to "Foudia aldabrana".
Searching my university's EBSCOhost subscription, I found citations to Frith, C. B. (1976). "A twelve-month study of the Aldabran Fody Foudia eminentissima aldabrana". Ibis. 118: 155–178. in:
That cited article is in the Wikipedia Library: https://onlinelibrary-wiley-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/doi/epdf/10.1111/j.1474-919X.1976.tb03064.x. The oldest citation I see in there is to the article you asked for. Benson 1963 doesn't seem to mention this species, but Benson 1967 does, searched with the help of HathiTrust: it describes the species starting on p. 87; on pp. 102-103, it says that it's a subspecies; and there are some additional matches.
I know basically nothing about zoology, but I hope this helps?

Unfortunately, I don't seem to have access to Svenska Dagbladet from that date. I'll try poking at the website a little to see if I can get it that way, but if that doesn't work, I can request an ILL in about a week. Solomon Ucko (talk) 00:08, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see any obvious way of getting it from the website. It looks like the print version only exists in European libraries, so it might be complicated to process, so I'll hold off for a few days as my university's ILL staff requested, then submit the ILL request. Solomon Ucko (talk) 14:53, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Doc Taxon:
I gave the request a deadline of about a month, and it has accordingly been cancelled. Given that it doesn't seem to be in the print version, I'm not sure if there's much they can do anyways.
Based on my limited understanding from cognates and photographs, I do see some articles in the print version that seem to be about police and/or terrorism, such as:
  • "Terrormisstänkt man jagas av Säpo" (p. 8)
  • "Krigsscener under razzia" (p. 10)
  • "17 döda i räd efter gruvexplosion" (p. 20)
  • "Så blev kärlekens stad ett terrornäste" (p. 28)
Let me know if you think any of these might possibly be useful, and I'll send you them.
Additionally, I have access to various news databases, so if you let me know what you're looking for information about, I can try to help you find another source for it.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 18:57, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just noticed that it's in Press Reader's collection, which I have access to through my public library, so I searched for the title, and manually looked through the issue for that date (https://www.pressreader.com/sweden/svenska-dagbladet/20151119/page/1), but found nothing.
I'll try putting in a request for an interlibrary loan for the digital version with an explanatory note, but I'm not sure if it'll work.

Thanks, Shankar Raman (talk) 07:43, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Shankar Raman, have you tried asking folks over at WikiProject Queensland? By random chance alone there isn't much chance anyone's going to be from Brisbane, but it's much higher there and maybe they could go to the state library or, if they are outside Brisbane but still in Queensland, do an ILL, which is free for Queensland libraries.
Not a very active WikiProject but it could help.
Newspaper Archives do not cover that article, Newspapers by Ancestry do not cover Queensland at all. Szmenderowiecki (talk) 12:29, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the suggestion--will look it up. Shankar Raman (talk) 05:21, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
FWIW, a couple of Google Books results ([2], [3]) indicate that the title of the article might simply be "Erythrina resupinata", but I'm not sure.
I could try requesting an interlibrary loan through my US library in March, when they don't have as much to do, since this might be difficult for them; let me know at some point if you'd like me to attempt that then. I'd encourage you to first try asking WikiProject Queensland, as Szmenderowiecki said, or perhaps better WikiProject Australian biota, such as by putting a message on the WikiProject's talk page.

Civilization II release date search[edit]

Can anyone also point me towards release info for both the US and UK for Civilization II that doesn't contain original research? (US) Usenet forums specify an in-stores date of March 13 through the following sources: [4], [5], and [6]. For Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven

The first source is a book that discusses the development of Canadian music in the early 2000s. This chapter in particular talks about Godspeed You! Black Emperor, including the album Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven. While I can somewhat access it on Google Books, it does not have page numbers, and not all the pages are available. The footnotes from the book I have added to the article in question are guesswork because I do not know the exact page numbers and would like a stable copy for verification and ease.

The rest are reviews of the album taken from either the review score sidebar already in the article or the album's entry on Metacritic. I have applied on the Wikipedia Library to access Rock's Backpages, but there's no guarantee I will find them there.

Thanks, Lazman321 (talk) 22:20, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have added two additional sources for request: the media notes for both formats of the album: back cover, liner notes, additional artwork, etc. I seemingly cannot find them in full online and given the added artwork and unusual tracklist, at least according to sources, I doubt Discogs would be useful. I mostly need them to verify for myself the contents and the personnel behind the album. I could attempt to request an interlibrary loan, but I'm having trouble finding a good WorldCat entry to reference... Searching for journals with ISSN 2079-8784, I see OCLC 1404284894, which is a digital and held solely by the Marshall Center Research Library in Germany, and OCLC 1404363057, which is also digital, and held by no-one, but links to Elsevier Scopus, which only has metadata, abstract, and references. It looks like your request is the entire contents of 5 chapters, so there's a good chance that an ILL request will get rejected. How did you come up with that page range?
OTOH, it seems to be out of print, and the publisher seems probably defunct, so the publisher can't really argue that you should've purchased the book legitimately, since it seems like it'd be a second-hand copy anyways, so should I try requesting a scan via ILL and see what they say? Here's some information I found about the publisher: it:Domenico Sanfilippo Editore, https://www.fieg.it/chisiamo.asp?sector=imp_imp&id=059, https://web.archive.org/web/20200221170740/http://www.dseditore.it/home.htm

I think the ILL is worth trying. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 10:58, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm willing to give it a try, but why those pages? Are you specifically interested in the aftermath of the 1669 eruption? FWIW, I found a citation to that page range in https://www.viella.it/download/7048/18d4a449a56d/heroes-in-dark-times.pdf. If you're working on Huaynaputina, I think pp. 24-30 might be more relevant? Should I try to request a physical copy of the book so that I can more easily find and send you anything relevant?
Solomon Ucko (talk) 15:36, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I am interested in the aftermath and management of the 1669 eruption - I guess the issue is that 121 pages is an entire book, yes? For Huaynaputina, 24-30 might work. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 07:44, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Probably will require inter-library loan.[edit]

For Amelia Barbiere. Both journals say that they have been digitized by Hathitrust, but checking there, I find no open access journals. Noi donne listing at Hathitrust does not show 1994 and a general search of Hathitrust shows no listings for either "Casa san Giuseppe, Muhura" the orphanage Barbiere founded in Rwanda, nor her name. The search for Mondo e missione on Hathitrust shows nothing for Barbiere, but shows the article about the mission is on pages 90 and 135-137. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For #1, it looks like Stanford has issues from 1994 (https://searchworks.stanford.edu/view/2758622), so I'll try to request an interlibrary loan for the article.
Searching HathiTrust for Barbieri (ending in "i" instead of "e") for #2 gives me #134–136, #194, #481. I'm not sure if those are exactly page numbers, though... Solomon Ucko (talk) 16:32, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sollyucko I appreciate you and your help so much. And thanks for catching the spelling error. Seems likely that whatever the name of the article is in the 2nd source it starts on page 134 and goes to 137. The other pages are probably the table of content and the indices entries, but I'm obviously not sure. From what I could see in the google search that In cammino appears at the top of the page, but is likely not the article title. Can we try for those pages? SusunW (talk) 20:20, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My library's ILL website is currently not working, but I think I've put in a request for #1 already, and I'll try putting in a request for #2 once it's back up. I'll add a page of context on each side to minimize the chance of receiving sentence fragments and the like, so pp. 89-91, 133-138, 193-195, 480-482. I'll add a note to clarify what the numbers mean in case they aren't page numbers or they're split across multiple issues or whatnot. Solomon Ucko (talk) 20:52, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You are the best! Thank you so much. SusunW (talk) 21:39, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Sollyucko not trying to rush you, but wondering if we have an update on these? SusunW (talk) 16:17, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For #1, my ILL staff just told me that they expect to wait 16 days for a reply from the lending library; I hope that's okay with you.
For #2, it was shipped on the 23rd, then cancelled on the 24th with no reason stated, so I've emailed them to ask what happened and if there's anything I can do about it.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 16:24, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the update. I appreciate your help. SusunW (talk) 17:09, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sollyucko Have we made any progress on this request? SusunW (talk) 19:04, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think the set of libraries that have the correct issue of each is limited, and judging from the processing history, those that do might be less convenient to borrow from. I think they're working on them, though; the last log entry for each was 4 days ago, and it seems they sent a request and are waiting for a response. If this goes on for too long, I might try to contact them to figure out what's going on and see if I can help somehow. Solomon Ucko (talk) 19:46, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@SusunW: Status update:
My request for Mondo e missione has been cancelled for "Multiple Articles/Chapters Requested at Once". I did some more searching and found some citations to that volume, so I'm working on searching for the article titles in HathiTrust to create a mapping between issue & page numbers and scan numbers. I'm planning to finish this cross-referencing and submit a new request for each issue tomorrow.
Meanwhile, my request for Noi donne was sent to some library via a manual (and therefore slower) process on February 12th. I guess they're either waiting for a reply or are being slow to process the reply.
Sorry that these are taking so long. Most of my ILL scan requests have been satisfied in just a few days, but I guess these sources are hard to find and get.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 05:20, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sollyucko I appreciate you! Thank you for the update. SusunW (talk) 05:45, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@SusunW: You're welcome! It looks like vol. 132, no. 1 (January/gennaio 2003), p. 1 is scan #9; no. 2 (February/febbraio), p. 1 is scan #105; no. 3 (March/marzo), p. 1 is scan #201; no. 4 (April/aprile), p. 1 is scan #296; no. 5 (May/maggio) I have no citation for; and no. 6 (June-July/giugno-luglio), p. 1 is scan #489 or perhaps #490. Based on this, the matches we found are:
  • #90: no. 1, p. 82
  • #134-137: no. 2, pp. 30-33
  • #194: no. 2, p. 90
  • #481: no. 5, p. ??? (but searching HathiTrust for other keywords alongside Barbieri does not include #481, so this might not be useful anyways)
I'm accordingly planning to put in two new requests when I get a chance:
  • vol. 132, no. 1 (January/gennaio 2003), "ch. w/ p. 82"
  • vol. 132, no. 2 (February/febbraio 2003), "chs. w/ pp. 30-33, 90"
BTW, here's the spreadsheet I made to keep track of the cross-referencing: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15FmVGg48RCH6GQKQFxiQ0GYTUKtcyc7cn49gOWaGm6E

Truly, truly appreciate your help, Sollyucko. It does take a village to write WP articles. It is often especially difficult to find articles and then once found, to figure out how to access them. Your help and that of others here in the RX is unmeasurable. SusunW (talk) 17:21, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the siloing of information makes this quite difficult at times, but it's worth it as long as it usually gets put to good use. I'm thinking about an idea for a meta search engine that tells you which databases have what you're looking for, but getting it working well and getting database providers on board might be difficult, especially since it needs to balance usefulness and usability against the interests of the providers... (e.g. they might not want to share a full copy of their full database, but they might be willing to share some kind of index or provide API access.)
Meanwhile, I submitted these requests about an hour and a half ago; hopefully they won't drift around for another month before getting canceled again...
Solomon Ucko (talk) 19:28, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for sending the article. SusunW (talk) 15:24, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@SusunW: I sent you the Mondo e missione articles, but are you no longer interested in the Noi donne article? My request for it is currently pending; the last status update I see is that my university library sent out a request on paper on February 12th. They're now either waiting for a response or being slow to process it. I can cancel my request, but I'm not sure if the lending library will be aware. Solomon Ucko (talk) 16:02, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Jpcase: How did you find these citations?
Solomon Ucko (talk) 15:08, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sollyucko: I found all of these through ProQuest.
Not sure why the Grand Rapids Press article isn't showing up in their archives - if it's helpful, the author is Terry Deboer, and the article was published on page 7.
As for the Chicago Sun-Times articles, "Former pop 'Idol' turns to Christian music" is by Colleen Long and was published on page 8, while "Runners-up are anything but idle ; Though they didn't win, just being on the show put some singers' fame on fast-forward" is by Karu F Daniels and was published on page 39.
You're right - "SOME ALSO-RAN SUCCESS STORIES" and "How can you keep them down on the farm ...?" are identical articles to each other, which I somehow failed to notice, and do seem to be an exact match with the second article at the bottom of the Ocala webpage - thanks for pointing that out!
"Found!" is actually part of the title for the USA Today article, so I'm still looking for that one. If you're able to track it down by any chance, let me know! Thanks for your help already! --Jpcase (talk) 20:15, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Got it, thanks, that helps.
They're not in my university's ProQuest subscription, but they are in Wikipedia's and some are in my public library's, but I can't see the full text, only an abstract and metadata. I wish I could be logged into all of those subscriptions at the same time rather than having to constantly switch between them...
FYI for any future requests you might make (and also for when you're citing sources), the more information you can specify about where to find the source, the easier it'll be for us to find and get it for you. Publisher, location, and ISSN help disambiguate publications with the same name, and ISSN in particular makes searching for it way easier, and can allow my ILL (inter-library loan) requests to get semi-automatically processed within 24 hours. Page numbers allow locating the article without checking every single page, and are often a requirement for ILL. Author names can sometimes make searching for it easier. Specifying the database you used allows others to check that database to see if they have additional access and to check for any metadata that they might find useful if you didn't already mention it. Things like subjects and summaries are usually omitted, since they take up a lot of space but provide limited value.
I've put in ILL requests for #1–4.
I got #1 (the US Today article) from the Internet Archive about half an hour after submitting it. I swear I tried to search for it there myself first, but maybe I searched for USA instead of US? Anyways, here's a link; let me know if you'd like me to send you the whole PDF I received: https://archive.org/details/sim_us-weekly_2004-04-19_479.
If you contact me via Special:EmailUser, I can send you the other articles when I receive them.

I have a large caché of books in pdf form, if anyone helps me with these two titles, I will return the favour.

ShockedSkater (talk) 14:27, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The first one appears to be available in full for free on Google Books and/or Google Play Books.
The second one I can request via inter-library loan if you let me know which article(s) you're going to use it for, and I'll try to figure out which page range to request a scan of.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 01:24, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The first book I cannot access from here, I live in Tirana, Albania. Although some books can be accessed in the United States, not sure though. I'd be grateful if you'd help me, if you need any PDF's, drop me a line. ShockedSkater (talk) 16:14, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. I am in the US; I have full access to the first but can only see search snippets for the second. If you contact me via Special:EmailUser and let me know what parts of the first one you'd be interested in, I can send you screenshots of those pages.
I do this for free with the aim of improving Wikipedia. I will not accept money (except possibly to pay for resources if necessary) nor barter. However, if anyone here asks for a resource that you have a PDF of, I'd encourage you to offer it to them.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 16:29, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've requested a scan of part of the second one for the purpose of improving Wikipedia.

Baltimore riot of 1861[edit]

What authoritative sources are there that the burning of railroad bridges in Baltimore isolated Washington from Northerners? --Vyacheslav84 (talk) 16:16, 10 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Newspapers.com has a lot of relevant sources; have you tried searching through there? You should have access through the Wikipedia Library.

Steamboat Arabia[edit]

  • Lexington Weekly Express. March 14, 1856. {{cite news}}: Missing or empty |title= (help)
  • Daily Missouri Democrat. March 18, 1856. {{cite news}}: Missing or empty |title= (help)

These have been cited on Arabia (steamboat) because they were cited by the Arabia museum staff in the museum's own exhibit history prose. This is all I know. I can't find them on WP:LIBRARY's free subscription to newspapers.com and newspaperarchive.com. If you brilliant angels can't find them, I'll go ask the museum staff for a photo!

Thanks, — Smuckola(talk) 21:23, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't seem to have online or physical access to those specific dates of those newspapers through any source I can think of... I can try to request an interlibrary loan through my university or my public libraries, but especially without a specific page number to request a scan of, this might be difficult, so asking museum staff first might be a better bet.
FWIW, I found this related Facebook post: https://www.facebook.com/arabia.steamboat.museum/photos/a.10150367946311279/10158849337656279/?type=3

Sources about Anton Çelebi[edit]

In 12 July 2023 there was a conference ([10]) in METU, Turkey, whose Session 3 was dedicated to Anton Çelebi. 4 researchers (Mehmet Kuru, Gamze Yavuzer, Özden Mercan and Christopher Whitehead) presented something. Links give out their papers ([11]), but only 1 page each:

  • Mehmet Kuru: The Trans-Mediterranean Family of Hasan Agha and Anton Çelebi
  • Gamze Yavuzer: Who is the Lawful Heir?: Anton Çelebi’s Trans-imperial Inheritance Case between Florence and Istanbul
  • Özden Mercan: A Man of Two Worlds: Anton Çelebi’s Extraordinary Life in Livorno
  • Christopher Whitehead: The Career of Customs Officer Hasan Agha as a Financier for the Ottoman State (1646–56)

Is it possible to find the full contents of these papers? And also I'm interested in this book — Palais de Hollande in Istanbul: The Embassy and Envoys of the Netherlands Since 1612.
For Anton Çelebi

For the conference talks, I'm not sure there's anything published beyond the one-page abstracts for the individual talks and the session. You could try contacting the authors; you can find contact info at the following pages:
(I also found that all of them presented at Turkologentag 2023 Vienna: [18], [19])

Alright, I've emailed Dr. Yavuzer's St. Andrew's email address from my university email address. I'll let you know if and when I get a reply.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 16:15, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, colleague. Have you been given an answer? With respect, Smpad (talk) 11:30, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Smpad: Here are the key parts of the emails so far:

I'm looking for information about Anton Çelebi, and found your talk titled "Who is the Lawful Heir?: Anton Çelebi’s Trans-imperial Inheritance Case between Florence and Istanbul" that you presented at METU and Turkologentag in 2023. Beyond your abstract for that talk (https://historiansnet.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Gamze-Yavuzer-Anton.pdf), are you able and willing to share any materials you presented, or any additional information you know about Anton Çelebi?

— me, 5 days ago

May I ask what your work is on Anton, and what exactly do you need for your research?

— Dr. Gamze Yavuzer, yesterday

In this case, I'm asking on behalf of another user on Wikipedia, who says they're planning to use it as a source to improve the Wikipedia article about Anton Çelebi (https://www.qudswiki.org/?query=Anton_%C3%87elebi). Therefore, if you'd be willing to help with that, I'd appreciate any information or sources about any notable details or events that aren't yet mentioned in the article. If you're not interested in supporting this, that's fine, just please let me know.

If possible, I'd like to be able to cite a published/accessible source that directly states each fact mentioned in the article, so that future readers can verify where the information came from. As long as the sources are available somewhere that can be publicly accessed (needing to pay is okay), such as being available from a public library, a public or subscription website or database, a publisher or retailer or reseller, or any other similar location, that's enough; being formally published by a publisher isn't the only option. Sources can be written documents, audio or video recordings, or any other kind of media.

Are you able and willing to provide copies of or citations to any sources written by you or anyone else that could help with this?

— me, yesterday
I'm now waiting for a reply to this, which I expect will take a few days.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 15:16, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Smpad: I've received the following reply:

I've checked the existing Wikipedia page on Anton Chelebi and it seems that the author of the page is already aware of the project on Anton and his brother Hasan. I worked on this project last year and now the PI of this project is working on a book on these brothers. When the book is published, there will be more information to add. For now, however, I cannot add anything more than what is already available on the project's website.

R'n'B World or Afrostar, tabloid style music magazine published by Go Publishing, New York in 1968[edit]

  • "n/a". R'n'B World. New York: Go Publishing. 1968.

For Go Publishing, I'm looking for any archive or library that may have copies of R'n'B World or Afrostar, two tabloid-style music magazines published by Go Publishing, New York in 1968. They were given out free by radio stations and record stores, but I have only been able to find a couple of copies on eBay.

I'd like to confirm their publication dates, and any notable writers, as well as hopefully be able to browse them to add their content as references to other articles too.

Thanks, Jimmyjrg (talk) 06:43, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Here's what I've been able to find (mostly on eBay, but some issues, mostly of Go, are available as digital scans through Adam Matthew Digital, and some of the eBay listings have high-quality photos):
R 'n' B World:
Afrostar:
I also found Go: (this list is incomplete)
I also found Soul:
I also found Zoo World / Zoo News:
If the title is hard to search for, sometimes searching for staff such as the publisher or the editor works better.
I also found some stuff about the publisher company:

@Arctodus-simus: Alright, I've requested #1, #6, and #12. For the books (and one massive multi-volume article), please use a source such as Google Books or HathiTrust to identify specific page numbers you're interested in. Alternatively, if you let me know what to look for, I can request the whole book in print and try to find the relevant parts (I'm not sending the whole thing), but please note that English is my native language, I studied French for 3 years a few years ago, and I have no specific education in German, since this impacts my ability to find relevant parts of the book.

@Archivar-Alex:
I can try to request this by interlibrary loan, but do you have any idea what page numbers might be useful? If not, I can try to request the whole thing, but I'm not sure how successful that'll be, given the limited holdings (see OCLC 16257906) and possible copyright issues with scanning the whole thing. If you're not sure what the page numbers are, and I can't get the whole thing, I'll try asking for a table of contents and/or index (hopefully it has something like that), and then we can use that to figure out what page numbers to ask for.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 20:34, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don‘t really know if there is any content in this book relating to my topic but I think it should be at the end (April 1945…). So I unfortunately don‘t know which pages are relevant. The table of content/ index could be helpful here if it exist.
I‘m appreciate your help. Maybe you have luck to get the whole book.
Don‘t know if the copyright thing is the same as it is for some photos of the US Army Signal Corps??

Any news in this topic? Archivar-Alex (talk) 21:07, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Archivar-Alex: I've submitted a request to my university's libraries, who after some back-and-forth, eventually sent a request along to some other library mid-day on March 28th, and are either waiting for a response or taking time to process it. Unfortunately, the amount of time these requests take can vary wildly, depending on various visible and invisible factors, so I don't think I can usefully give you an estimate (though my best guess would be at least a couple of weeks since I think they're going to ship the physical item), but I'm hoping I can get it eventually.
Solomon Ucko (talk) 21:48, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Archivar-Alex: I've received the whole thing. Skimming through it, I see no mention of "Geislingen", "Natweiler", or "Struhof", though I do see some brief mentions of their presence in or near Göppingen.

The Fierce Vienna, Catalan, and Sidelines[edit]

For Draft:Devin gambit, I have been looking for sources to expand on the 3. ...d5 lines. According to Chessable search, this course has some material about a particular line in this gambit (1.d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. g4 d5), and I suspect that the relevant text content is in the "16) 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 - 3rd Move Alternatives" chapter. This was played by Espineko in response to Mamedyarov's use of the gambit in the 2022 Tata Steel Masters at Wijk aan Zee. If I could get just the text explanation of each of the variations involving the move order 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3. g4 d5, as if one were in the "book" mode, that would be sufficient.

Thank you!

@Arctodus-simus:
My university has both volumes of OCLC 17300892 in print, but 41+7+38+33+10 = 129 pages from the same book is a lot, so please filter it down somehow. You can search through it at Google Books and HathiTrust to find page numbers, or you can let me know what kinds/categories of information you'd be most interested in, and I'll do my best to help you out. (I think that any amount of information should be fine, but to respect copyright, I'd prefer to limit verbatim quotes/figures/pages to about 10% of the whole book.)
Solomon Ucko (talk) 20:16, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. This book is a volume of articles by various authors. I'm most interested in the chapters by Tassy and Shoshani, and Gentry and Hooker and also maybe Novacek, Wyss, McKenna. But I will be grateful for any of them. Arctodus-simus (talk) 21:02, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Arctodus-simus: I may be able to help with your narrowed request, or at least part of it. However, one other thing we require people requesting sources to do is identify at least one Wikipedia article (existing or not - it can be a new article they plan to write) that they intend to use the source to improve. Knowing this is necessary for us to make a reasonable claim of fair use of copyrighted materials. Since you are new to Wikipedia and have no content creation history here, I recommend you start by declaring a single topic that you could plausibly improve if you had one of the above chapters. --Worldbruce (talk) 06:50, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Index to Irish Privy Councillors[edit]

  • Index to Irish Privy Councillors 1711-1910 (and partially from 1660). Dublin: Privy Council Office. 1910.

For List of Privy Counsellors of Ireland and the articles of each privy counsellor.

It is available in the National Library of Ireland but not viewable online. It is cited as the source of Leigh Rayment's Irish privy counsellor page, which is not a reliable source, so trying to access the original book. Since it is published in 1910, it should be out of copyright.

Thanks, ネイ (talk) 00:46, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@ネイ: The item is a 24-page index, so it likely contains very little data about each privy counsellor. It's available at only the one library, and I don't think WP:RX has any volunteers in Dublin, so your best bet may be asking the National Library of Ireland to scan it for you. You could start with a single page, which costs just €1, to see whether it will be useful for your purpose. --Worldbruce (talk) 16:02, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, ordered a scan and it works for my purpose. Given the scary Terms and Conditions, I am not sure whether I can upload the full text to Wikisource though (the text being produced c. 1910, it is most likely in PD). ネイ (talk) 09:30, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm looking at page 16 of this source, which states that there is coverage of the gambit in Schiller's book ("Devin’s 3. g4 is also in the Eric Schiller’s Gambit Chess Openings, where Schiller assesses the position at move 3 as better for Black"). Unfortunately the book is not at the IA library, and it's not searchable on google. I'd only need the portion of the book that relates to this particular gambit (1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. g4), but I don't have page numbers owing to the lack of google preview.

Thanks a bunch,

According to the ToC, it could be p. 570 of the book. I found some discussion of this gambit in another of his books, Unorthodox Chess Openings (p. 201-202), which I sent you via wikimail. It is a very short fragment but maybe it will help. Szmenderowiecki (talk) 00:14, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

English language translation of Orissan/Odishan folktales (from India)[edit]

1. * Mishra, Mahendra Kumar (2015). Folktales of Odisha. India: National Book Trust. pp. 173-179 (tale "Sarukumar and the Land of Cobras"). ISBN 9788123773773.

Kunja Behari Dash [or] mentioned a tale titled Sarakumar, wherein heroine journeys to the land of snakes in search of her husband. For Champavati, since Bezbarua's version has a second part with missing husband and heroine's search.

2. * Mishra, Mahendra Kumar (2015). Folktales of Odisha. India: National Book Trust. pp. 133-135 ("The Old Woman and the Python"). ISBN 9788123773773.

Also for Champavati: possibly the Asian introduction Stuart Blackburn noted for tale type 433C (mother asks for figs and snake provides them).

3. * Mishra, Mahendra Kumar (2015). Folktales of Odisha. India: National Book Trust. pp. 76-80 (tale "Nagakumar"). ISBN 9788123773773.

For Champavati. Heroine's husband is snake in practically every Indian variant of animal as bridegroom.

4. * Mishra, Mahendra Kumar (2015). Folktales of Odisha. India: National Book Trust. pp. 163-169 (tale "The Girl inside the Bel Fruit"). ISBN 9788123773773.

For The Belbati Princess (Indian folktale). Kunja Behari Dash [or] mentioned an Orissan tale titled The Story of Belabati (Belabati katha), which is possibly this one.

Nebraska Public TV video "Street of Dreams" (1992 version)[edit]

For North 24th Street

I don't know whether this falls within your bailiwick, but I figured that I'd give it a shot.

The Wayback archive links for the 1992 Nebraska Public TV video "The Street of Dreams" appear to all be useless.

The 1994 video "A street of Dreams" is readily available, but no clue as to whether there is any likelihood that "A Street of Dreams (1994)" is actually a suitable alternative to "The Street of Dreams (1992)".

There are about 20 articles on enwiki that cite (or intend to cite) this source.

Thanks, Fabrickator (talk) 05:04, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Fabrickator: There does not appear to be a The Street of Dreams (1992). The supposed link for it is archived (at [22]) but instead lists: "A Street of Dreams, 58 minutes, Great Plains National Instructional TV 1994. Documents the history of Omaha's African-American and Jewish community on North 24th Street, which flourished in the 1920s."
One would have to watch the whole video to find where in it each statement attributed to it is supported (or more-or-less supported, editors can be pretty slapdash about source-text integrity). The lynching of Will Brown covered in Omaha, Nebraska is described starting at 14:02 minutes in, for example (I don't think it puts a dollar figure on the damage, but I'm not going to go through it with a fine tooth comb). The video mentions B'nai Jacob, as claimed in History of the Jews in Omaha, Nebraska (but calls it a congregation from Lithuania instead of "a Conservative congregation"), and so forth. If this information answers your question, please mark this {{resolved}}. --Worldbruce (talk) 14:38, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Worldbruce: I appreciate your efforts to locate a 1992 video called "The Street of Dreams", but I believe the most plausible explanation is that there was in fact a 1992 production of "The Street of Dreams". In 1994, at the time they decided to do a subsequent release, they became aware that "the street of dreams" was used in other cities, and in fact, the New York Times did a story in 1992 titled "On The Street of Dreams" to refer to St. Marks Place. So when Nebraska public tv decided to issue a 1994 release, it made sense that they would change the title to "A Street of Dreams". Fabrickator (talk) 19:02, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Fabrickator and Worldbruce:
It's hard to search for due to "Street of Dreams" not being a unique name, but here are references to it that I've found that seem to be clearly relevant; see the links for more context/details:
  • [23]: "'A Street of Dreams' video produced by Nebraska ETV Network in 1992."

  • [37]: "Street of dreams / Authors: Camille Steed, [...] Lincoln, Neb. : NET : Distributed by GPN Educational Media, ©1994. [...] Call Number: Reserve DVD 978.2254 St83 1994 [same thing but with a different format prefix]"
  • [38], "Full details": "Title: Street of dreams / production of the Public Affairs Unit for University of Nebraska-Lincoln Television. Publication: Lincoln, Neb. : Great Plains National Instructional Television Library, c1994."
  • [39]: "Air Date: 08/01/1994"
    • On-screen text at the start of the video: "Nebraska ETV Network [x2]; University of Nebraska at Omaha; Nebraska Humanities Council"
    • On-screen text at the end of the video (starting at 56m58s): "Writer/Producer/Director: Camille Steed; [...]; A Production of the Public Affairs Unit, for University of Nebraska Lincoln Television, ©1994"
(IIRC, in the US, the date in the copyright line is the publication date, i.e. when they aired it, not the creation date, i.e. when they produced it.)
My best guess is that the same video was produced in 1992 and aired in 1994.

"has been working with a team of robotics experts with a new robot design. He said that more will be announced early June." This was from an April 11, 2024 lecture by Hawass. I will see if I can find a more reliable source of information. Paul H. (talk) 21:23, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Plate 191, Harvard.edu[edit]

If someone could send me plate 191 (Shah with a dignatory...), that would be splendid. For some reason, the website only allows me to download a fraction of the images.

For: Safavid Iran.

Thanks, - LouisAragon (talk) 18:08, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Is it an image request or you want to describe the image? If the latter, the Russian Academy of Sciences posted a book that describes the plate on page 110. I am sure though that you want to upload it to Wikipedia as it's public domain, but here I just think that Harvard are being assholes for restricting access to public domain documents (I tried maniulating the width and height of the image in question but Harvard sysadmins aren't that stupid, so the request redirected me to the login page). For Stars and planetary systems in fiction. Cited by the "Stars" entry in Gary Westfahl's Science Fiction Literature through History: An Encyclopedia. I think this is what I'm looking for, though unfortunately it is not accessible via Google Books.

Huh. ISFDB concurs, though the cover seems to only say "The Zone". Odd. TompaDompa (talk) 12:17, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
