Original – The Dome of the Rock was completed by order of Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan (c. 691 CE) and the exterior was decorated with ceramic tile by Suleiman the Magnificent (c. 1550 CE). Built over the Foundation Stone and the Holy of Holies, the Dome of the Rock is believed to mark the location of the Second Temple as well as the location of the Isra and Mi'raj.
