Neologism?[edit]
I get the distinct impression this is something that was made up on the fly, and isn't an actual existing business term. Ten pages of Google results seems to indicate the only place this is used is in videogame related articles (notably on discussions of the Wii, PlayStation 3 and the XBox 360). Surely if there's some actual business logic behind this, or rather, if this is an actual business term, at least one reliable and credible source can be provided that uses the term "attach rate". —Locke Cole • t • c 22:05, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- This article in a trade magazine for the services and support industry talks about attach rate. I'd say that's a reliable source. In this article, the complementary product is the AppleCare protection plan, and the primary products are iPods and Apple computers. - Not quite what I was hoping for, but it's better than endless blogs talking about game consoles. I guess my thinking is, if this is a legitimate business term, then some academic reference should be possible to find (a business school, or a professor giving a lecture, or something of that nature). - I'm actually surprised there is any controversy here; it is a relatively common term in Hollywood as well as in the video game business, but I guess outside of consoles it's not really in the press. Here are some links though:

Spelling[edit]
Corrected some spellings. "Complementary" is correct. "Complementery" is a misspelling. Note that "complimentary" is an entirely different word having an entirely different meaning.
