Bad Bad Article[edit]

This article does have a lot of rubbish...well its not what it seems. It sounds rubbish, but DAMs videos provide further insight in this article.

Not clear what you thought was so bad about this @unsigned IP from 11 years ago, but I assume your desired edits are outpaced by the passage of time? This article should be updated to include recent work, and to overlap less with Tamer Nafar's personal page. I'll hopefully come back to it this week for some clean-up! Fair use rationale for Image:1dam-logo.gif[edit]

Image:1dam-logo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

recent changes[edit]

I've reverted some of the changes made by Hip a dee hop, and added some citations where available, and citation needed templates where necessary. I'm a little confused about the rationale behind some of the changes made, though. In no particular order:

  • What sense does it make to delete reference to them as Palestinian? They are Palestinian, they identify as such, they are widely known as such. A lot of reverts have been made to this article previously to minimalize their identity as Palestinian - not only is this denial of ethnic identity politically disingenuous, but it makes for a worse, less informative, and less helpful article. I would suggest that this article about a hip-hop band is not the forum to redefine key terms in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
  • Is there a reason their myspace page shouldn't be linked to? Just curious.
  • Much of the whole paragraph deleted with the rationale that it was unsourced doesn't seem to warrant deletion even for that reason. It would be better to selectively remove claims that are problematic (I'm not sure that there are any controversial enough to warrant deletion over a citation needed template), and add templates to those for which a citation might be found in the near future.

In any case, this is a great band and an important article. I think we should make it better, more extensive, and better-supported by citations. But rather than summary deletions that take away important substantive aspects of the entry, perhaps we should use the talk page more. Sindinero (talk) 13:37, 12 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Palestinian citizens[edit]

The use of the term Palestinian citizens of Israel is problematic as it is ambiguous. Using the nationality adjective to decribe a person's citizenship is usually taken to mean that that the person is a citizen of the country to which the adjective refers, i.e. that a Palestinian citizen is a citizen of Palestine, an Israeli citizen is a citizen of Israel, a German citizen is a citizen of Germany etc. Citizenship, unlike national identity, is not a matter of self-definition.

User:Huldra Please explain your edit. I guess we agree on 2 facts:
1. They are not Palestinians.
2. They consider themselves Palestinians.

(edit-conflict) It is usual to let the people self-determinate their nationality (unlike their citizenship, which people are ususally born with). DAM indentify themselves as Palestinian; we should respect that. Huldra, I respect their self-definition, but the facts above must also be respected. After all, their self-definition is changeable. Hypothetically, if in the future they will decide to define temselves as Chinese, it will not be possible to simply state that they are Chinese. They were not born in the Palestinian territories. They are not citizens of the Palestinian Authority. They never sought to be Palestinian citizens. They were born in Israel and lived in Israel all their lives.
Appropriate wording will be: a band of Israeli Arabs, who define themselves as Palestinians. Bar (talk) 19:09, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ugh; The Palestinians I know who have Israeli citizenship absolutely detest the label "Israeli Arabs". There is a difference between citizenship and nationality; and they define their nationality as Palestinian, Huldra (talk) 20:30, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
