Personal visit observation section removed from article until it is fixed[edit]

A visit to the site by myself[who?] and several others on 13 March 2010 has shown that the damage is mostly wind-swept dirt burying the area around the ziggurat. During our visit, (we[who?] are US Army infantry, we enlisted several people here), we were allowed to explore the entire area. There are multiple bricks from the "restoring" by Saddam that are damaged and broken. The main walkway onto the ziggurat has a large hole forming in the broken concrete. The encroachment of urban growth was not evidently seen as the area around the ziggurat is farm land with a few mud brick houses nearby. Overall, I[who?] would say that the ruins are doing ok, but attention is most definitely needed to preserve this ancient artifact and allow future generations the opportunity to enjoy the grandeur of a 3500-year-old structure. Our interpreter, who escaped Iraq in the 1970s and is now a US citizen, told us of an entrance to the interior of the structure he had gone into as a kid, which we could not find, due to the brick enclosure that was constructed under Saddam.
