Original name[edit]

The original name of the orchestra before 1948, in Hebrew, was not the 'Palestine Symphony Orchestra', but "התזמורת הסימפונית הארץ ישראלית", "The Symphony Orchestra of Eretz Israel".
This might be useful information so that readers are aware of the fact that the name "Israel" was current and was used in the Hebrew language in an official capacity for the territory before 1948.

Boycott controversies[edit]

The following text I introduced was deleted by Uncle Lucas is a Founder: "The PACBI cultural boycott guidelines consider Israeli institutions as legitimate targets only if they are "complicit in maintaining the Israeli occupation and denial of basic Palestinian rights, whether through their silence or actual involvement in justifying, whitewashing or otherwise deliberately diverting attention from Israel’s violations of international law and human rights".[9] The IPO was considered a legitimate target because it identifies with the Israeli state and because of its partnership with the army under a scheme whereby special concerts for Israeli soldiers are organized at army outposts." The reason given for the deletion was "undue weight, this is not a forum for PACBI". But readers do have a right to know motivations. I propose to insert a more concise wording to take into account the objections. Nescio vos (talk) 09:41, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
