Edmund Kirby Smith[edit]

Seems the sculpture of Edmund Kirby Smith is being replaced, so there's possibly another article to add to the list. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:30, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Additional homework: other works in the collection[edit]

Can we start creating a list of missing articles for removed state statues and other works in the collection? @Carptrash: Pinging in case you're interested, based on one of your comments above. ---Another Believer (Talk) 02:18, 23 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, always interested, but have been in the hospital recently and am more inclined to take naps than write articles. Carptrash (talk) 21:24, 16 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Mary McLeod Bethune[edit]

Not done Seems we'll be needing an article about a Mary McLeod Bethune statue:

Merger proposal[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section.

Although the list of List of sculptures in the National Statuary Hall Collection is long, I don't see a reason it should be a separate article rather than a section of this page. Czrisher (talk) 16:08, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Czrisher, I disagree and prefer to keep the list. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:12, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Disagree as well. The list article is a quality list, including well-put-together tables and images, of the exhibited sculptures. Randy Kryn (talk) 18:17, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Another Believer, Randy Kryn, why not make the list a part of this article? Why keep them separate? -- Pemilligan (talk) 18:50, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Pemilligan, The list is long and has over 100 entries. The parent article should be about the collection in general, while the list should be kept to display the collection and provide links to individual statues, IMO. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:53, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Bryanrutherford0 and Carptrash: You two participated in the fork discussion above. Care to share any thoughts here? ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:54, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

They should be kept separate. The article created by joining the two would be too unwieldy. Carptrash (talk) 16:07, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm struggling to find any real guidance in WP:MoS on how to decide between embedded and stand-alone lists. Here's my basic reasoning: embed any list that is not long enough to make up a stand-alone list article, and split off any list long enough to be its own article (and therefore too long to comfortably include within a text article). List of sculptures in the National Statuary Hall Collection falls in the second category, in my view, and I support the status quo (keeping them split). -Bryan Rutherford (talk) 19:10, 11 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Update: I've removed the merge tags from both articles, per this discussion and the fork discussion above. There is clearly not a consensus to merge these pages at this time. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:22, 11 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Rejected Replacements[edit]

I added a section I've called "rejected replacements." I just read an article about a failed 2011 petition to change Maryland's statue to Harriet Tubman. I'm not sure this section's title is the best--but I do think it is important to note when attempts were made to make a change and were rejected. If anyone knows other statues that petitions have been rejected please add! Katlett (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 14:25, 6 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
