Fully independent, or under some degree of U. S. control?[edit]

The Federated States of Micronesia gained full independence in 1985. Since then, Pohnpei has been a sheltered tropical port under indirect U.S. control.

This sentence contradicts itself. If the FSM gained full independence, how is Pohnpei "under indirect U.S. control"? That would be incompatible with the concept of "full independence." 2601:281:D47E:1920:1062:8265:7669:E68E (talk) 21:41, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
