CAT II / 2.5 ground stuff badly needed for Treviso![edit]

Compared to the relatively frequent occurances of rolling fog (funny cloud) weather Treviso experiences, the Canova airport has limited instrumental landing facilities, with high ICAO Category I minima. Airliners sometimes go-around, maintain a prolonged holding pattern and/or divert to Venice Marco Polo airport if fuel runs low.

Wizzair did a very low altitude landing abort and go-around at Treviso on 18/05/2010, then circled for 20 minutes, the pilot announced high probability of aborting to Marco Polo proper to the passangers, but eventually the plane landed in Treviso. However, I felt the pilots were not wise trying to outrun the incoming "funny clouds" in the first place. Low-cost airline business logic is no excuse to risk repeating the Katyn disaster! 87.97.99.194 (talk) 12:55, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Airport Closure[edit]

Could somebody add that the airport is due to close from June to September and that (many) flights are going to Marco Polo Airport instead?

There's some information about why in the following link:

Happy news for economy budget Venice fans! The resurfaced runway at Treviso Canova airport has eventually reopened to commercial and passenger air traffic on 05 Dec 2001. Supposedly, there will be another short hiatus in early 2012, while the new hi-tech radar tower and lighting set get its certification trial runs done for ILS CAT3. (The new tech is already installed, but does not yet have the official papers, so it's still operating as CAT1.) 82.131.210.163 (talk) 17:56, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
