Notability of Cooler Master

Cantilever Bar

I know it would seem natural that Cantilever Bar would get its name from the CPR's cantilever bridge, but most "bar" names along the Fraser date from the Fraser Gold Rush of 1858-60; SFAIK the name Cisco does, however, like a lot of othe "wild west" names in that area, e.g. Mormon Bar, Van Winkle Bar (Siska is a latter-day emendation from Cisco and I don't think was the original Nlaka'pamux placename). BCGNIS doesn't say the name origin or provenance; it may be happenstance that someone had built a wooden cantilever bridge on a side-creek there, or some other contraption that was cantilever in nature....NB the name was applied also to the Cantilever Range, a nearby subrange of the Lillooet Ranges which IIRC includes only Skihist Mountain, the Lillooet Ranges' highest, and Petlushkwohap Mountain (which might maybe mean "good/best in the middle of something" if it's Chinook Jargon in origin). It would help if there's any CPR records or anything else which might be able to specify the naming of Cantilever Bar; BCGNIS says only "Adopted 2 May 1957, as labelled on Dominion Sectional sheet 61, Lytton, 1913, and as identified in the 1953 BC Gazetteer."[1].Skookum1 (talk) 16:37, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
