Women in Islam[edit]

I'm not going to revert your removal of the sentence, but I'd like you to consider if there's another way to say the same thing. From what I've read, there ARE imams who think that wife-beating is every Muslim male's right and say so in the Friday sermon -- just as there are Christian ministers who support racial discrimination or persecution of homosexuals. The question is how far these folks are representative. Pretending that they don't exist is counter-productive in the long run. Zora 02:11, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fatima Zahra[edit]

You took the bit where the Sunni deny the whole bit re Al Muhsin, reduced it, and stuck it in a parenthesis. That's minimizing their repudiation of that story. They respect Umar and do not accuse him of mistreating pregnant women. Also, the emphasis on how much Muhammad loved Fatima is just ... off. Even if it is a Bukhari hadith. That implies that if Fatima was unhappy with Abu Bakr and Umar, then Muhammad would have been unhappy with them. I think the Sunni just ignore that hadith, and it's not exactly a Sunni thing to bring it forward. Zora 06:50, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm confused here. Of course the story is an issue for Shi'a. It's part of a whole storyline that depicts Abu Bakr and Umar as monsters. And as for ignoring a hadith -- as I understand it, the ulema pick and choose, even among the hadith of Bukhari and Muslim. It's only the lay people who simplify as "everything in Bukhari and Muslim is sahih and nothing else is safe".
I've spent years here dealing with insistent Shi'a and my first impression was that your edits were just another Shi'a attempt to use Sunni hadith against the Sunni. You say that you did not intend that ... OK. But if I got the impression that the Sunni critique of the Shi'a position was being downplayed, then wouldn't readers have that impression too?
If the Sunni AND the Shi'a both accept that her gravesite is unknown, then the material ought to be moved out of the Sunni section into the "all Muslims believe" section. Zora

Fatima - Fatimah?[edit]

Why the change? Did you discuss it with anyone first? Fatima has become an English name and I should think it's OK to leave it in the form that's the most familiar to English-speakers. Zora 20:45, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Arabic help[edit]

Hi, you seem to know Arabic pretty well. I'm not very good, and I haven't even figured out how to add Arabic text properly on Wikipedia. If I give you a few words, could you write them in Arabic? Cuñado - Talk 00:21, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

We started a proposal Wikipedia:Wikiethics to state the existing policies coherently and make suggestions on improving the editorial standards in Wiki. I thought you might be interested in contributing to that proposal.

Unfortunately, a pro-porn and pro-offense lobby is trying to make this proposal a failure. They unilaterally started an approval poll although almost no one including me believe that it is time for a vote, simply because the policy is not ready. It is not even written completely.

Editors who thinks that the policy needs to be improved rather than killed by an unfair poll at the beginning of the proposal, started another poll ('Do we really need a poll at this stage?') at the same time. The poll is vandalized for a while but it is stable now. A NO vote on this ('Do we really need a poll now?') poll will strengthen the position of the editors who are willing to improve the ethics policy further.

If you have concerns about the ethics and editorial standards in Wiki, please visit the page Wikipedia:Wikiethics with your suggestions on the policy. We have two subpages: Arguments and Sections. You might want to consider reviewing these pages as well...

Thanks in advance. Resid Gulerdem 22:21, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi thank you for joining the WikiProject. Being a small group currently there is still plenty of scope for influencing things and making your contribution count. We are about establishing standards for Novel based articles and writing articles that meet our own and others high standards, and to improve Wikipedia's diet of articles on Fiction books, otherwise called Novels. If you have any questions, do ask. Please be very welcome. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 18:26, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hadith in Fatima Zahra[edit]

I still don't think it belongs there -- it's a Shi'a-POV hadith -- but I'm tired and cranky and mean tonight, so I'm not going to argue. I'd forgotten that I'd talked to you about it, which probably has something to do with being tired. Zora 06:12, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Missouri[edit]

Dear Stoa, I am beginning the process to create a wikiproject for Missouri. in order to do so i'm required to show that there is a base of at least 5-10 people who would be interested in contributing to such a project. the project would serve to aid in the creation and editing of articles related to the U.S. State Missouri, its cities, counties, geography, transportation, culture, history, education, and so on. It aims to expand Wikipedia's resources on Missouri in a fair and accurate manner. Since you're stated as being a wikipedian in missouri, i wanted to see if you were interested. if you are, please add your username at Wikipedia:Wikiproject/List_of_proposed_projects#Missouri and User:Preschooler.at.heart/Missouri. thanks for your consideration. --preschooler.at.heart my talk - contribs 15:57, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You for your support. WikiProject Missouri is now online. please feel free to contribute, and add your name to the list of members. --preschooler@heart my talk - contribs 23:27, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Mists of Avalon[edit]

I noticed that your page User:Stoa/The Mists of Avalon was still intact, even though the article itself appears to be finished. I don't know what you really plan to do with this, but I won't mess with it seing as how it's yours. -- Gizzakk 12:59, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Middle Ages did not call younger members of royal families as princes and princesses[edit]

please check the ongoing discussion about "princess" title on Talk:Margaret of Connaught - it will have implications that many medieval women will soon get the courtesy prefix "princess" before their names in article names. ObRoy 21:35, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see that in an earlier form you were responsible for the current "Plot summary". The previous one was FAR too large and needed triming, however it looks to me as if this is lifted from elsewhere on the web. If this is true could you rewrite, copyedit it please. I just had to revert an un named editor who replaced it with some even more blatant copyvios. Any way thanks for you efforts. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 12:46, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Uther Pendragon[edit]

Hey Stoa, I saw you've edited Uther Pendragon, and I know you're pretty knowledgeable about Arthurian matters, so could you take a look at at the recent additions to the page? A new editor is insisting we include his theories that seem pretty far fetched to me. They're not OR, but they're taken from books by authors I know to be fairly, uh, dramatic with their conclusions about British history. If you can see a way to resolve this, please do.--Cúchullain t/c 00:52, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize for the late reply but I see the page seems to be returned to good order now. I understand what you mean about the B&W reference point for most of the user's information and also don't agree with most of their research and conclusions on the subject. I will try to keep an eye on that page and other related additions. --Stoa 03:29, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Good to see you back, by the way.--Cúchullain t/c 04:05, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Islamic Barnstar Award[edit]

Please offer your opinion, vote, or whatever about your choice for the image to be used with the Islamic Barnstar Award at the Barnstar proposals page. Although there is consensus for the concept of an Islamic Barnstar Award, some editors would like to change the image for the award. I was just thinking you should be aware of this discussion because you have contributed to Islamic-related articles, received the Islamic Barnstar Award, or have contributed to the Islam-related Wikiprojects, etc.--JuanMuslim 1m 16:20, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Info on Islamophobic group[edit]

Hello,

What follows are the thoughts, expressed in their own words, and in the 'protest signs', of the obscure, very small, but very vocal 'activist group' known as "Protest Warrior".

"What's becoming clear is how the religion of Islam is addicted to war and mayhem. Not a radical minority, not a rogue sect, but its very essence is about submission and sacrifice and proving your worth by worshipping death in this life to gain a paradise of orgies and drunkenness. Their entire history is of warfare, and any accomplishments of their so-called Golden Age has been proven to be merely parasitic off the cultures they've conquered and reduced to dhimmi servitude. That every country under sharia is corrupt, belligerent, desolate and barbaric obviously gives them no pause, except to constantly drive them into further psychotic rage as they refuse to ever accept any responsibility for their conditions. They are akin to the powers in Orwell's 1984; there must always be an enemy. It's no surprise that women are treated like property in these countries as that's the only way Muslim men can feed their egos, to dominate others rather than ever actually produce something."

Kfir Alfia and Alan Lipton, founders of "Protest Warrior"

Their 'protest signs'...

Signs

I thought you might be interested in this group's sentiments. They are currently very actively editing their own article on Wiki and there is a lot of 'group think'. Perhaps you might want to become involved in the editing and discussion process on that page. If you do, please don't vandalize, and try to remain civil. Should you not want to involve youself, please forgive my intrusion.

Greetings[edit]

Hi Stoa. I saw your user page, your interests and decided to introduce myself. I come from Bosnia and I would like to write articles about military past of the Balkans, war crimes commited there etc, because I realized that current articles about the subject are not even 1% of the whole perspective. And there are so many edit wars between Serbs, Croats, Bosnians, Albanians and other people from the Balkans which destroyed the point of encyclopedia. Many of them are just here because of their nationalistic sentiment. There are not many Bosnian useres here who surrvived the genocide in 1995, so I will try to fill that gap writing relaible articles well sourced and documented, but unfortunately English is not my mother tongue. And I have to admit that I am afraid to make mistakes when I write (alhough I perfectly understand English, I learned it at school). So I came here to ask for help. When I finish those articles, could you read some of them to correct grammar mistakes? If you have time of course for that. Feel free to correct me, anytime not just in the articles, but here in talk pages. Best regards. The Dragon of Bosnia 20:33, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

File source and copyright licensing problem with File:CelebrateMercy Logo.png[edit]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:CelebrateMercy Logo.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 02:37, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Cook-Rees Memorial Fund has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I cannot find any indication of notability. While this unquestionably exists, I don't find any references beyond brief mentions or name drops.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
