This course examines Islamic art in the Mediterranean region, Central Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and Sub-Saharan Africa from ca. 650 CE to ca. 1500 CE. Students will study diverse Islamic artworks and monuments in their historical contexts with the help of primary texts in translation. The Wikipedia assignment will ask students either to work on an existing article or write a new one.
